National Highway in Nellore still breached
Vehicles bound for Chennai and Tirupati were stranded all along the highway in the district
Nellore: With incessant rain in Nellore district hampering the efforts of the highways authorities to restore the breaches on the National Highway, transportation continued to be badly hit in AP on Wednesday with vehicles stuck on roads and people stranded at railway and bus stations.
Vehicles bound for Chennai and Tirupati were stranded all along the highway in the district and some opted to go via Ongole and Kadapa as the alternative roads from Nellore to Tirupati and Chennai were also inundated.
One track each to Chennai and Renigunta was restored late on Tuesday night though 22 trains, mostly passengers and long-distance, were cancelled on Wednesday. Ayyappa devotees to Sabarimala, travelling in four buses from East Godavari, have been waiting for the restoration of the National Highway since Monday night at Nellore.
