GHMC renames many of its wards
A majority of the objections related to change of ward boundaries and change of names

Hyderabad: The Kapra ward has been divided into Kapra and Dr A.S. Rao Nagar in the delimitation of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) wards that was approved by the state government on Thursday.
New wards like B.N, Reddy Nagar, Meerpet HB Colony and Chikanagar have been created by the notification.
Besides, the Barkatpura ward has been renamed Kachiguda and Motinagar as Moosapet. Most of the changes have been done in terms of big wards and change of names.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation had published the preliminary notification of the 150 wards on October 28 and sought responses from the public.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation received 635 objections and suggestions from political parties and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation residents. of these, 65 suggestions and objections were for change of names and boundaries of words. Another 38 were partially considered and 532 were rejected
A majority of the objections related to change of ward boundaries and change of names. Some respondents demanded an increase in the number of wards from 150 to 200, besides opposing the dividing of nearby colonies into different wards.
The state government said that a gazette notification will be issued by GHMC special officer before November 27, paving the way for GHMC council election to be held in 2016.
