Kasargod goes to UDF as BJP abstains
The complaint was over the printed form given to councilors
KASARGOD: A.G.C. Basheer of IUML has been elected as the Kasargod district panchayat president. He defeated V.P.P. Musthafa of CPM by a single vote. Mr Basheer got eight votes against Musthafa’s seven.
The abstinence of two BJP leaders paved the way for UDF’s victory as UDF had eight members and LDF seven.
The oath taking ceremony was marred by the chaos created by BJP councilors alleging that the district administration igno-red the Kannada language.
The complaint was over the printed form given to councilors. Alleging that the form was not available in Kannada, BJP district secretary and councilor K. Srikant tore off the paper in front of district collector P.S. Mohammed Sageer.
He accused the district administration of failing to print the form in Kannada despite Kannada enjoying the minority language status in Kasaragod.
