Left weakened secular forces in Bihar: Oommen Chandy
In many seats, the votes secured by the CPM and CPI helped BJP gain victory
Thiruvananthapuram: A day before his visit to Patna to take part in Nitish Kumar's swearing in ceremony, chief minister Oommen Chandy has made a scathing attack on the CPI(M) for failing to be part of the grand alliance.
In a detailed article which outlines the significance of the Bihar verdict, Chandy said that though the Left parties were celebrating the victory now these parties had actually helped BJP gain some seats by dividing secular votes.
Though the Left parties contested 21 seats out of 243, only CPIM(ML) could win two seats. In many seats, the votes secured by the CPM and CPI helped BJP gain victory.
The chief minister said the CPM had in a way helped the BJP which was out to destroy the secular fabric of the country.
After the Bihar verdict, the central leadership came out with a statement hailing the victory of secular and democratic forces. The statement was actually made to hide their embarrassment.
He said the Congress and UDF had always taken a strong anti BJP position at the national and state level . CPM has many lessons to learn from its stand in Bihar.
Mr Chandy said it was time for all secular forces to join hands for fighting against the communal politics of Sangh Parivar .
“The country is faced with innumerable problems and this has happened within one and a half years of Narendra Modi coming to power at the Centre. There is a concerted attempt to destabilise the plurality of the nation,” he added.
