KANNUR: Karayi Rajan, the  CPM leader accused in the murder of Popular Front of India worker Fasal, had an unexpected guest on Thursday after he   took the oath as president of Kannur district panchayat.

It was P.K. Abdurahman, Fasal’s brother,  who greeted Rajan with flowers in the district panchayat hall. “He is  a long-time friend of mine,” said Abdurahman while hugging Karayi Rajan.

Karayi Rajan and Karayi Chan-drasekharan, who are out on bail,  attended the swearing in ceremony with the special permission of the court.  Chandrasekharan had assumed charge as the chairman of Thalasserry municipality on Wednesday.

Chandrasekharan is the seventh and Rajan the eighth accused in the case of murdering  Fasal at  Thalasserry in October 2006.

Meanwhile, sources said that the duo would approach the special CBI court in Kochi seeking permission to do their duties as elected representatives.
