IED detected on Srinagar-Baramulla road
Security forces also recovered two mortar shells, concealed in a gunny bag, from Anantnag district
Srinagar: Security forces today detected an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the outskirts of the city on Srinagar-Baramulla road, police said.
A patrol party of CRPF noticed a bag under a culvert at Lawaypora on Srinagar-Baramulla Highway and immediately called for a bomb disposal squad, a police official said. He said the IED fitted, with a rocket, was destroyed in the nearby open fields. There was no damage done in the controlled explosion of the explosive.
"A major tragedy was averted with the timely detection of the IED as the Srinagar-Baramulla road is always busy and used by civilians and security forces alike," the official said.
Meanwhile, security forces recovered two mortar shells, concealed in a gunny bag, at Brakpora in south Kashmir Anantnag district, the official said. He said the bomb disposal squad has been rushed to the spot.
