KANNUR: Congress leader K. Sudhakaran has hit out at the Congress leadership saying that the efforts to blame him for the party’s poor show in the district were unwarranted.
Taking on party leader M.M. Hassan and KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran, he said the candidates in Kannur were decided by the KPCC and not him. Mr Hassan’s doubts over the candidates were made in poor taste, which should have been raised with the KPCC leadership, he told mediapersons at his residence.
Mr Sudhakaran’s outbursts came just a day after Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala had tried to spare him from the responsibility of the party’s poor show in Kannur. Mr Sudhakaran’s attack was also meant as a message that nobody, including the KPCC president, should interfere in the party’s affairs in Kannur.
Mr Sudhakaran also used Mr P.K. Ragesh, the rebel, as a tool to convey his displeasure over sidelining him during the local body elections.
Terming Mr Ragesh as a mentally deranged politician, Mr Sudhakaran said some members in the Congress party were responsible for his growth.
“When a tree poses a threat to your house, you cut it down. But in the case of Ragesh, a section in the party let him grow and that has caused the defeat of the party. The media also helped him,” he said.
He did not want to talk about Mr P. Ramakrishnan, KPCC general secretary. “Don’t mention his name to me. He tried to damage my trustworthiness. I had no role in deciding the candidates in Kannur and I do not have any major role in the party,” Mr Sudhakaran said . He said he would give a complaint to the KPCC demanding action against the party workers who promoted the rebels.
He also warned Mr Sudheeran that if the party continues to take strong action against the rebels, the party will suffer in the Assembly elections as well. “Sudheeran will have to rethink and no such discipline is needed in the Congress,” Mr Sudhakaran said.
