ChennaiActor Sivakarthikeyan, who rang  up the Chennai corporation and offered to donate 1,000 bedsheets for the flood-hit people, was  Saturday’s gossip material after rumours swirled that he had been rebuffed by the local body.

While it was the actor’s representatives who were involved throughout, rumours began after a Tamil daily claimed that corporation kept re-directing the person who
called on the actor’s behalf to various officials, instead of providing the person with accurate details.

Subsequently, the person who made the call, who stated his name as Shankar, clarified to Deccan Chronicle that the Chennai corporation was extremely helpful. “We did not expect this to gain negative publicity.

We are actually thinking of drafting a letter of appreciation to the Corporation because they were supportive. The Commissioner Mr Kapur too was great and in fact, he asked us if we needed any help in getting the materials to the place where we intended to donate,” said Shankar.

The actor’s representatives are said to have distributed 1,000 bedsheets at the Saidapet relief centre.“Siva and five of us friends, we had similarly distributed 1,100 bedsheets in Cuddalore. We did not intend to get publicity and this whole thing is unfortunate,” Shankar added. Sivakarthikeyan could not be reached for comment.
