Even after three months since the success of the song Mukkathe Penne from Ennu Ninte Moideen, the lyricist and singer of the song Mohammed Maqbool Mansoor is still unable to digest it all.
The hit song was born on his birthday, and as usual, he walked into Gopi Sunder’s studio to render the humming for the songs in the movie. Never in his dreams had he felt that it would be a career-defining day for him.
“Gopi chettan was singing a tune and he suddenly asked me to write down some lyrics for it. That was a gifted moment. I still don’t know what really brought those lines to my mind. It was instant and there was an inexplicable positive ambiance around me.”
“Everything was done very fast and in five minutes, I completed the lyrics. After composing, we celebrated my birthday. It was an unforgettable day,” he says.
Maqbool has been working in the industry for the past five years and has sung in several movies. However, this was a special moment for him as it was the first time he penned a song and gave voice for it.
“When I heard the song after recording and in theatre, I had an inexplicable feeling. I still do not know how things turned out. The music Gopi chettan gave to the song was magical. He really knows what he wants. Another striking coincidence was that I had spent my previous three birthdays at his studio, working for films,” he says.
Maqbool nurtured a career in music after his plus two exams and the music in him has been shaped by various events and journeys in life. “I had faced several let downs and rejections. I got energy from each failure and this helped me to rebound. Working for Ennu Ninte Moideen was a very different feeling. The reward was very positive; the happiness the song brought me is immense and I want to continue in this mood as long as I can.”
Apart from his musical interests, Maqbool also likes to try his hand in direction. “I am a dropout in sound engineering and film studies. The interest to work in films has been there from childhood. I am looking forward to assist a director. I have also committed three songs,” he says.
