Hassan: Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwar on Saturday said that there was no proposal before the State Government to halt birth anniversary celebrations of Tipu Sultan, in the wake of recent violent incidents particularly in Madikeri which to led to three deaths.
The Home Minister was responding to a query whether the State Government would observe Tipu Jayanthi in the future and added that by celebrating birth anniversaries of great personalities and unveiling statues of them, the State Government intends to spread the message of these great personalities among the people. He clarified the State Government had not received any proposals on holding birth anniversaries of Bengaluru founder Kempe Gowda and saint Shankaracharya.
He warned persons from making provocative statements which would create confusion among the minds of the people and said that anybody indulging in making provocative statements would be dealt with sternly by the police.
On the incidents of violence in Mangaluru and Madikeri, Parameshwar said suitable action would be taken based on the reports of magisterial and police inquiry.
“There is no scope for moral policing in the State,” the Home Minister asserted.
The government would not spare anybody who is involved in illegal sand mining, but unfortunately sand mining mafia has grown in the state. He said that officials from police, revenue and public works have come under attacks from the mafia and government would take all necessary steps to curb the sand mafia in the state.
