Mumbai: Rahul Mukerjea, son of media tycoon Peter Mukerjea who was arrested in the Sheena Bora murder case, stressed that his father was innocent and that there could have been confusion over his role in the case. Meanwhile, Indrani Mukerjea, prime accused in the murder case, broke down after she was told about Peter’s arrest by her lawyer Gunjan Mangla, said sources.

Peter was arrested on Thursday evening after the CBI filed the chargesheet against the three main accused in the Sheena Bora murder case. The media tycoon has been charged with murder conspiracy and destroying evidence. According to sources, Peter was arrested when the CBI officials found no similarity in statements given to them and the Mumbai police.

Speaking to The Asian Age, Rahul said, “My father is innocent, there could be some confusion.”Sources also said, “So far, it has been revealed that Peter knew about Sheena’s murder but did not inform the police and misguided the investigation. However, his involvement in the murder is not yet clear.” According to CBI sources, main accused Indrani’s statements and circumstantial evidence too went against Peter. A separate team of the CBI has started collecting evidence against Peter.

The Mumbai police grilled Peter three-four times in the last 3 months, but did not find any discrepancy in his statements. Therefore, the CBI team has started working from scratch to get details about Peter, verify them and also collect evidence. The team has one day to gather evidence to be able to get his custody for a few more days.
