Shruthy shines in her new role

After trying her hand at dancing, acting, anchoring and modelling, Shruthy Bala is now busy learning the ropes of the behind the scenes works of film production. The actress, who recently launched her own company DOT Company along with some of her friends from the industry, is now serving as the Creative Head of the company based in Kochi.

“We create video portfolios, do videography, take up editing projects and so on. Our recent project was a brand car travel video for the National Geographic Channel. We have roped in some of the prominent photographers, editors and fashion designers from the industry; it is a collaborative venture between us. I do the concept development for the projects and organise and manage the shoots,” explains Shruthy.

On the acting front, she is currently working on her Malayalam project Amarakaran, opposite director Major Ravi. “The story is based on a real life character P.U. Thomas and his life from early years to his 50s. He is engaged in social service for orphans and old age homes and used to donate food to almost 50,000 people at Medical College every day. It is not a typical commercial movie; it’s more like a parallel film that concentrates on charity. I play an MBBS student in the film and I meet the hero at the hospital. The initial admiration for his work ends up in their marriage, despite the huge age gap between the two. It was a very challenging role,” she says.

“I had spoken to P.U. Thomas before the film shoot to understand the storyline better and I also visited the Medical College a couple of times to get the feel. My character also shows this slow progression of age as the story progresses,” she explains.

Referring to Major Ravi as an actor, she adds, “I haven’t worked in any of his films, so I don’t know him as a director. I’m only familiar with him as an actor.

On the sets, he is neither friendly, nor very serious. He just has this balanced professional approach. But he is very helpful when it comes to working on scenes together and understanding the script better. We are only done with half of the shoot yet. It’s based on real life, so the shoot is very time consuming to accommodate all those details in.”

She also has a Tamil project Thalir in the pipeline and she plays a typical village belle in the movie.
