Mumbai: The only Indian contestant to have been part of Bigg Brother Australia will now be entering Bigg Boss as a wildcard. Priya Malik is a standup comedian as well as a school teacher. In Bigg Brother she was targeted with some racial slurs and has had quite a controversial stint.
Speaking to us just a few hours after landing in Mumbai for the show, Priya told us, “I’m originally from Dehradun but did my English honours in Delhi and then moved to Australia with my husband. Bigg Brother Australia has been running since 11 years but I’m the only Indian contestant to have participated. I’m a schoolteacher back in Australia but a sexy one that assures 100 percent student attendance. I’m also a standup comedian. The comedy bit came out of nowhere, I’ve always had a sarcastic sense of humour. I did these Open mic shows, and got the award for best comic of night. I’ve even received death threats, because I do a lot of jokes on subjects like race and religion.”
So how did she deal with being the victim of racial slurs on Bigg Brother Austraila? “It made me a stronger person. A lot of people cant handle who I am. Indians abroad are stereotyped as the arranged marriage, vegetarian people, I want to change that.”
Priya admits that her plans don’t end at just being a participant on the show, this is a platform to make an entry into films. “I’m realistic, I know my plans may not work. I won’t have Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan bidding for me outside my house but I want to be a popular face among the audience and try my luck in Indian movies.”
While it has often been pointed out that the current season of Big Boss dosent have contestants as exciting as previous seasons, Priya agrees, “At the moment I don’t see anyone as my competition. Mandana Karimi is popular but she does a lot of inhuman things and so does Kishwer Merchant. If Keith comes back he would be my competition because he was the only sensible person but he can be boring so that’s an advantage for me. Ive been following the show like a hawk since the past four seasons and this time a wildcard has the highest chances of winning.”
