Heavy rainfall disrupts normal life in Puducherry again

Puducherry: Heavy rain in the Union Territory since last night disrupted normal life once again. Many roads were flooded which made driving difficult.
Several stretches near Indira Gandhi statue, Lawspet, Rainbow Nagar and MG Road were flooded. Pondicherry beach, which used to be very lively on Sundays, was mostly desolate.
Trade in the Sunday bazaar, famous for “cheap bargains”, was very dull due to the heavy rainfall. Traders says that they were not even able to open their shops for the last two or three weeks and even if they were open not many people are seen in the street because of rain which affects their trade a lot.
According to officials, Puducherry received a rainfall of 6.8 cm from Saturday 8.30 am to to Sunday 8.30 am and a total of 4.1 cm rainfall from Sunday 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.
Meanwhile, the Education department has declared a holiday tomorrow for all government and private schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal regions of the union territory.
