TN officials 'dodge' taking DMK's relief cheque: Karunanidhi
DMK had announced a contribution of Rs one crore for flood relief
Chennai: Days after his party announced a contribution of Rs one crore for flood relief operations in Tamil Nadu, DMK President M Karunanidhi on Monday accused the state government of evading a cheque for the amount.
"Officials are dodging (accepting) the cheque even after a request to the office of the Chief Secretary seeking an appointment to give the cheque," he said.
Such a response, "has given room to think if the higher ups had ordered them (officials) to not accept the cheque," he said in a statement.
Still, on behalf of the DMK, efforts were being continued to secure an appointment from the top officials (to hand over the cheque), he said.
"This is the reason for delay in giving the party's relief that was announced," he said.
On November 17, he had announced Rs one crore towards relief work on behalf of his party.
After his announcement, efforts were being made by the party headquarters to submit the cheque to the State government, he said.
