KOZHIKODE: The corporation councillors would be given training on the techniques of administration by the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode,  on December 20. It will be on the lines of the one-day management training session conducted by it for the state cabinet in 2011.

Mayor V.K.C. Mammadkoya has taken the initiative for the training to ensure effective administration. Mr Mammadkoya, an industrialist and a CPM leader, told DC  that the discussions were  on with IIM experts on the areas to be included in the sessions.

“We should learn new concepts and tools of ad-ministration,” adding that the expertise of IIMK would help the councillors improve their skills and reinvent themselves.

IIMK experts are seriously preparing for the session. Mr Mammadkoya has insisted that session be in Malayalam to help those who are not well-versed in English.

IIMK faculty Dr Saji Gopinath told DC that the session would focus on strategy for city planning and tools for ensuring good team work.

“We have identified faculty and are fine-tuning the modules,” he added. “It is for the first time we are planning a session in Malayalam As the mayor insisted, we have no go but teach in Malayalam to take fruits of learning to lower rungs of administration,” he said.
