Bangla rape victim’s book strikes chord with readers
Rs 85,000 collected from book, painting sales
KOZHIKODE: An amount of Rs 85,000 collected from the sales of the book written by the Bangladeshi sex trafficking victim and the paintings drawn by her was handed over to her at a function held at Nirbhaya Shelter home on Monday. G. Anoop, managing trustee of ‘Arm of Joy,’ an NGO based in Kozhikode, handed over the amount to her.
As many as 431 copies of the book titled Njan Enna Murivu and all the 18 paintings were sold out at the exhibition organised by ‘Arm of Joy’ at Kerala Lalithakala Akademi art gallery under the title ‘34female Bangladesh’. “With more demands from the public, two more paintings were drawn and sold,” said Mr Anoop.
The Bangladeshi girl had reportedly escaped from the custody of flesh traders in the city and she has narrated her tragic life from the days she left home for a job which later ended up in the hands of sex mafia.
The 80-page book has 18 poems, a short story and 24 sketches along with those on the cover. She has been given the pen name ‘Saya’ in the book due to legal issues though she wanted to use her original name.
