MALAPPURAM: Five persons of a marriage party from Kannur, including two siblings, were killed  and 25 injured when a tourist bus in which they were travelling  collided with a lorry at Aikkarapadi in Malappuram  early on Monday.   The condition of 10 passengers is said to be critical.

The bus rammed into the back side of a lorry carrying cattle feed while trying to avoid hitting a car around 3.45 a.m. The deceased have been identified as Raveendran, 54, Omana, 42, Devi, 67, and siblings Surya,13, and Athul,10.  Raveendran, Surya and Atul belong to Deyroth house, Edayannur,  Mattannur. The two others  are also from the same area and are relatives.

The 32 members of the group from Mattannur, Kannur, were on their  way back from Salem after attending the wedding of the granddaughter of Devi.  

The locals rushed to the spot hearing a loud noise and pulled out the injured. Several passengers were thrown out of the bus in the impact.  The police and Fire Service personnel led the rescue operations. ADGP north zone, Nithin Agarwal,  visited the spot.

Four critically injured  were shifted to a hospital in Mangalore and others were admitted at city’s medical college hospital.
