THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The LDF on Monday decided to organise a people's march to the Assembly on November 30 demanding the resignation of excise minister K. Babu who is facing serious charges in connection with the bar bribe case.

The decision was taken at the LDF state committee meeting here. The LDF legislators will also stage protests inside the Assembly when the session begins on November 30.

The meeting, presided by Leader of the Opposition V. S. Achuthanandan, observed that the allegations against Babu were serious in nature and the government, especially Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and home minister Ramesh Chennithala, were trying to shield him.

The LDF leaders said the recent observations of the High Court had put a big question mark on the investigations being carried out by the Vigilance.

It was impossible to expect a free and fair probe into the matter especially when the chief minister had given a clean chit to former finance minister K. M. Mani and now Babu.

Even the court had hinted that an external agency like the CBI should take over to ensure impartial investigations into the case.

The LDF is gearing up to scale up the agitation till Babu is forced to step down and face probe. An agitation on the lines of the anti-Mani stir is likely to be witnessed within and outside the Assembly.

As part of the national agitation of  Left parties, the LDF will hold dharnas in each of the 140 Assembly constituencies on December 3 against price rise and growing communalism in the country.
