Rumblings in Yogakshema Sabha
A council meeting of the sabha scheduled to be held on December 13 in Guruvayur will take a decision on the resignation
KOCHI: The Yogakshema Sabha, the community organisation of Namboodiri Brahmins of Kerala, has plunged into a crisis in connection with the Samathva Munneta Yatra of SNDP leader Vellapally Natesan as a section of office-bearers claimed that sabha president Akkeeraman Kalidasan Bhattathiripad resigned following a majority of the district committee members opposed the president taking part in the yatra.
Mr Bhattathirippad, who is attending the yatra, however, denied the claim and said that he continues to be the president of the Yogaskshema Sabha.
The district-level leaders said Bhattathiripad had expressed his willingness to resign in a meeting held on November 10 following objections to him taking part in the yatra was raised.
S. K. M. Raman, senior vice-president of the sabha, has been asked to function as the president till alternative arrangements are made, they said.

According to the constitution of the sabha, only the state council is authorised to accept the resignation of the incumbent president and then select a new person to the position, said Subramanian Namboodiri, secretary of the Thiruvananthpauram district unit.
Dhananjayan Namboodiri, Alappuzha district unit president, told DC that 12 district committees have opposed the president's action as the sabha was not given any formal invitation to be part of the yatra.
"We are not opposed to the concept of Hindu unity. But, the matter should be fist discussed in the organisation before taking a decision," Potti said. A personal invitation to Bhattathirippad cannot be construed as an invitation to the organisation, he added.
