Baghdatis fashioned another win for Punjab Marshalls to make it 2-2
Mumbai: Punjab Marshalls rallied to a 21-19 (3-2) win over Mumbai Masters in the first match of Champions Tennis League Season Two played at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association in Mumbai on Monday.
The 30-year-old Marcos Baghdatis turned things around by playing a huge role in mixed doubles and men’s doubles victories. The Cyprus man was not done yet. He came back to seal the men’s singles tie as he beat Satiago Giraldo 5-4 (5-3) in the tie-breaker.
Baghdatis and Giraldo took it to the second tie-breaker after holding on to their serves and level at 4-4 but Baghdatis used his experience to seal it for Punjab. Trailing 0-2, Punjab Marshalls made it 2-1 after winning the mixed doubles 5-2. The pair of Baghdatis and Svitolina dismantled Pennetta and her Colombian partner Santiago Giraldo by winning last three straight games after they were level 2-2.
Baghdatis fashioned another win for Punjab Marshalls to make it 2-2. He combined with Indian player Saketh Myneni to beat Giraldo and India’s Sriram Balaji 5-3. Punjab Marshalls broke once and then held their serves to set up thrilling final set.
