Fake currency racket busted by Hyderabad police
The gang circulated Rs 6 lakh in fake currency
Hyderabad: A Bangladeshi national along with three students from West Bengal, who were circulating fake currency, were arrested by East Zone Police on Tuesday. Two other gang members are absconding. The gang circulated Rs 6 lakh in fake currency at Hyderabad in July and Rs 3 lakh each at Vizag and Vijayawada in September.
Another 5 lakh were circulated at Hyderabad in October, but were trapped when one of the gang members purchased a pen and paid in fake currency. Police arrested Al Masrekin, Rajibul Hoque, Asif Iqbal and Minarul Islam, while Sofikul Islam and Shorif are absconding.
East Zone DCP Dr P. Ravinder said that Al Masrekin, a Bangla national came to India on a tourist visa in 2009. Later he obtained a student visa which is valid up to 2016. He along with Rajibul, Asif and Minarul formed a gang.
They met Sofikul and Shorif and they also became a part of the gang. In July, Masrekin, along with Shorif collected Rs 6 lakh counterfeit currency from Sofikul in denominations of Rs 1,000 and came to Hyderabad for circulation.
“Later, he along with Razibul and Asif went to Visakhapatnam with fake currency of '6 lakh in September and exchanged half of the amount in the market” said the DCP.
