Panel to probe ragging case in Acharya Nagarjuna University
Minister warns of stringent action; five students suspended in ANU
Guntur: The state government appointed a a two-member committee to conduct inquiry about the fresh ragging incident in the Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU).
Minister for human resources Ganta Srinivasa Rao scolded the staffs of ANU for their negligence towards restraining ragging menace. He visited ANU on Tuesday in view of fresh ragging incident and conducted a review meeting with ANU officials. He added that private/corporate educational institutions are handling students in large number but ANU officials are failing to control a small group of students. He warned of stern action against the ANU staff if they fail to shun negligence.
Mr Srinivasa Rao said that Professor V. Krishna Mohan, registrar of Am-bedkar University and Professor P. Vijayala-kshmi, registrar Sri Padmavathi Mahila University, would conduct an inquiry about the ragging incident. He said that the Balasubra-manyam committee report suggested conducting of fresher’s party in the university only that too in the daytime, restraining the ragging accused from further education/employment, including head of institution in the ragging case and the government is implementing the same.
The minister said that the conditions have changed as the students are coming forward to lodge complaints without taking extreme steps like committing suicides and he further said that the ANU suspended five students. He said that students should be made aware about ragging and asked students to make good use of mobile application Abhaya to lodge ragging-related complaints. He said that he interacted with students who asked appointing of a regular VC.
