CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani to be sacked over PM Modi tribute video?
Arun Jaitley and Rajyavardhan Rathore have conveyed their displeare on several occasions
Mumbai: In shocking turn of events, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has decided to sack the Central Board for Film Certification chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani. Nihalani has recently been in news for all the wrong reasons. First, for his grand tribute video on Prime Minister Narendra Modi that had footages from various parts of the world. Second, for announcing a film to expose all FTII students as 'anti-nationals'. Lastly, to cut James Bond's kissing scenes in 'Spectre' by half.
According to report in Mid-day, a senior ministry official has been quoted saying, “It is a matter of time before an official announcement will be made but the decision to replace him has already been taken.” Apparently, Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley and Rajyavardhan Rathore have conveyed their displeare to Nihalani on several occasions.
Nihalani had worked on a seven-minute film titled ‘Mera Desh Hai Mahan’ and had ordered theatres across India to play it during intermission. The video received a lot of flak because of its shoddy production quality and passing off the Dubai Expressway and the Moscow International Business Centre as scenes from emerging India. Nihalani later clarified that the images were necessary to convey Modi’s vision of a new India.
