It’s almost like a ritual that young sons of senior politicians try their luck in politics; not many have strayed from this path. But the young and handsome Amal Unnithan has decided to break the custom. Being the son of Rajmohan Unnithan, his ticket to politics would have been easier, but Amal decided to give a shot at acting.
Amal, who will be seen in Paulettande Veedu, directed by debutant Dileep Narayanan, says he had not planned entry to movies. “Technically, this is not my first movie. I had to drop my first offer even before it got halfway through. But since I am going ahead with this, I guess I could say this is my first,” he says.
Amal, who completed his B.Com from the Christ University, Bengaluru, was quite sure that academics was not his cup of tea, “I was pretty bad at studies. I never enjoyed going to college for studies and I always used to tell my friends that I would either follow my father’s footsteps and enter politics or start a business of my own.”
Amal received encouragement and support from ace directors I.V. Sasi, T.S. Suresh Babu and veteran actress Sharadha. Speaking about his upcoming project, a confident Amal says, “I chose this film solely because of its beautiful script. The movie has a very heart-warming story that will appeal to everyone, especially youngsters, and it also has a very strong message. I was very particular about the team I was going to work with and this one has a very strong and talented technical crew. ”
Amal has a reason to be very careful and selective right from the start of his career. “There are too many frauds in the industry who are waiting for a chance to mint money using mine or my father’s name. That is what happened for the very first offer I got. Just four weeks into the shoot, I realised that the whole thing was a sham and opted out of it.”
On why he is not entering politics now, Amal says “I don’t think now is the right time for me, but yes, someday in the future, I will.” The pooja of Paulettande Veedu was held earlier this month. The movie which is produced under the banner of Sreerama Creations also stars ace actor Thilakan’s youngest son Shibu Thilakan, senior actors KPAC Lalitha, Urmila Unni and an array of fresh faces.
