Chennai: Madras high court has directed the city police commissioner to consider the plea of actor S. Ve Shekher providing security to him. Justice R.  Subbiah gave the direction when petitions came up for hearing.

Shekher in the petitions submitted that he has been serving as a member of Central Board of Film Certification. Being the member of the Board, had took part in review of Tamil film, Porkalaththil Oru Poo, which was directed by K Ganesan. The film was not permitted for public screening and denied certification.

Suspecting that he was behind the denial, Ganesan, abused him and threatened him with dire consequences.  He lodged two complaints with the police, one seeking action against Ganesan and the other for protection. As there was no progress, he filed the writ petitions.

Justice Subbiah directed Shekher to approach the police commissioner, who shall consider the plea and pass appropriate orders on merits in accordance with law.
The judge also directed Shekher to file fresh complaints to the crime branch and to the police commissioner for protection within a week.

Later, the crime branch police should hold inquiry and if materials are gathered indicating commission of cognizable offence made out, the cops shall proceed further in accordance with law.
