ChennaiChennaiites may once again have to wade through water this weekend as weather officials forecast heavy rain from Saturday. The Met office says a new low pressure is forming near the Andamans and under its influence moderate to heavy rain may be expected from Friday. The weekend forecast is for Isolated heavy to very heavy rain over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

The state may only witness light to moderate rain over the next two days as a trough of low pressure over the Southwest Bay and adjoining the Sri Lanka coast, which was threatening to inundate the southern parts of the state, has weakened, according to the regional meteorological centre director, S.R. Ramanan.

According to weather blogger Novak Nole, an upper air cyclonic pressure is at present over Andaman adjoining southeast bay. During the next 48 hours this may develop in to a low-pressure system inviting more rains for costal Tamil Nadu, Pudhucherry and south Andhra. From Saturday to Monday, there are possibilities of heavy rains, he said.

Isolated rainfall occurred Wednesday over Tamil Nadu with southern districts including Tuticorin, Ramaeswaram and Tirunelveli receiving rain. Papanaasam, Manimutharu and Amabassamudram in Tirunelveli district received 10 cms rain.
Dharmapuri and Tirupattur recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 19 degrees Celsius.
