Old people a burden, says UP Governor Ram Naik

Lucknow: UP Governor Ram Naik has triggered another controversy by saying that senior citizens were a roadblock to the development of the nation.

Mr Naik, 81, said in Varanasi on Tuesday that the increased population of senior citizens was a serious problem for the country. The Governor, while speaking at the Kashi Vidyapeeth convocation said that pension to senior citizens was also a major ‘burden’ on the government.

The Governor then said that majority of the doctors in USA were Indians and nurses were from Kerala. “The workforce that works abroad and belongs to UP and Bihar is mostly seen working as cleaning staff –jhadu-poocha karte hain”, he said.
