Parties unite to fight graft in Godavari fete

Rajahmundry: An all party meet has resolved to fight against the graft that surfaced in conducting  of Godavari Maha Pushkaralu and demanded  the state government to publish a white paper on the expenses incurred and the work taken up for the fete. In a meeting held here on Wednesday, leaders from YSR Congress, Congress, CPM, CPI and RPC felt the need to wage a united fight to expose the matter

Speaking on the occasion, Congress district unit president Kandula Durgesh felt the need for setting up a fact-finding committee with YSR Congress MLC Adireddy Appa Rao as its convenor, to expose the corruption involved in Godavari fete.

YSRC MLC Adireddy Appa Rao said that the ruling Telugu Desam corporators were alleging graft in conducting the Godavari fete and felt the need for a thorough probe. YSR Congress leader Jakkampudi Vijayalak-shmi called for a collective effort to expose and fight against it.

CPM leader T. Arun demanded action against those involved in Godavari Maha Pushkaralu and asked for convening a special municipal corporation council session to  discuss the issue. He asked for a detailed probe on  stampede which claimed 29 lives .

CPI leader N. Rama Rao said that the CM should own up the responsibility for the death of 29 persons in the stampede during the inauguration. RPC leader Meda Srinivas asked whether the government appointed committee with the retired judge of a High  Court to probe the stampede incident, had any legal sanctity.
