Another Model United Nations takes off
Topics like legalisation of marijuana and international security were discussed
The Meridian School hosted its first MUN (Model United Nations) on Friday in city. Students from different city schools are participating in the three-day event as UN delegates, discussing world issues.
The MUN picked quite unique topics such as legalisation of Marijuana, escalation of tension between Israel and Arab countries, international security due to nuclear weapons etc. Under the Drugs and Crime committee of the United Nations, legalisation of marijuana is being debated; and the Meridian MUN claimed that they were the first to select the topic.
Omer Siddiqui, a Class XI student from Meridian said, “Marijuana should be legalised because of its medical merits and it cannot be ignored. If there is mass production on the basis of medical merits, then I’m in support of marijuana.”
Around 450 students registered for the event. The MUN’s secretariat, which consists of 14 students, had worked for two months to organise the event. Pratima Sinha, the Principal of Meridian School said, “The students did everything, from organising the event to selecting the topics, the faculty wasn’t involved. I would like to conduct this event next year too.”
