Manappuram heist: Rs 12 lakh gold looted
Unidentified robbers made away with gold valuables worth Rs 12 lakh
BENGALURU: In a daring robbery, the office of Manappuram Gold Loan office situated at Bommanahalli main road was allegedly vandalised and looted after a gang of unidentified robbers broke into the office building on late Wednesday night and made away with gold valuables worth Rs 12 lakh.
The robbers allegedly had first cut the power supply to the building and then proceeded to switch off the surveillance cameras. The incident was said to have taken place on Wednesday night around 11.30 pm after the office was closed for the day in Madiwala police station limits.
Preliminary investigations into the alleged case revealed that the gang members had the keys to the main door of the office. Reportedly, they first cut the power supply of the building and then proceeded to switch off the surveillance cameras installed in the building.
The gang members then went inside the office and vandalised it before they managed to open one of the almirah where the gold was kept in a file folder.
According to the police, the thieves had also sprinkled chilli powder across the office premises in order to misguide the dog squad from sniffing out clues. “Police are probing into all angles. Also, we are not ruling out the involvement of someone know to the company or the staff at this stage.
Police have taken up the case and enquiry has been ordered in this connection,” said DCP South-East, Rohini Katoch Sepat. Madiwala police have registered a case and are investigating.
