Bengaluru traffic police seize 700 autos for breach of rules

They also booked autorickshaw drivers for plying without licence display cards

The Bengaluru traffic police on Thursday conducted a surprise drive across the city against rogue auto-rickshaw drivers and seized as many as 700 vehicles in two hours mainly for demanding excess fare and refusal to go on hire

BENGALURU: The traffic police on Thursday conducted a surprise drive across the city against rogue auto-rickshaw drivers and seized as many as 700 vehicles in two hours mainly for demanding excess fare and refusal to go on hire.

The policemen were in mufti and the drive was conducted from 6 am to 8 am. They also booked autorickshaw drivers for plying without licence display cards.

According to a senior police officer, “There were lots of complaints regarding autorickshaw drivers refusing to go for hire or demanding excess fare. Police had also received the plaints regarding few auto-rickshaws plying without licence display card.”

It may be recalled that the police had recently seized 1,663 auto rickshaws from both West and East traffic division for violation of various rules.

BMTC drive against ticketless travel

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has intensified its drive in various parts of the city against ticketless travel. In October they have checked 26,371 trips and penalised 7,593 passengers for not having ticket and collected Rs 13.9 lakh as penalty.

They also booked 3,944 cases against conductors for dereliction of duty. During  the period the  checking staff also penalised 1,152 male passengers for occupying seats reserved for women passengers and imposed a fine of  Rs 1.15 lakh.
