Karnataka Legislative Council polls: SDPI not to contest now
The election is scheduled to be held on December 27
Mangaluru: Despite standing third in the recently held panchayat elections, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has decided not to contest the forthcoming Legislative Council election from the Local bodies constituency in Dakshina Kannada thereby bringing joy to the Congress camp.
The election is scheduled to be held on December 27. “We will not contest the council election in DK constituency. A decision would be taken shortly as to whom we should support if there is an election,” SDPI leader Haneef told DC. “We are concentrating on the ZP-TP election that is due in few months,” he added.
However, according to sources, SDPI is planning to field its candidate only in Mysuru with the help of JD(S). With SDPI not contesting, there is a possibility of election not happening as Congress and BJP might field their candidates for one seat each in DK and both may be elected unopposed. DK constituency has two seats – one held by BJP and the other by Congress.
