Kuvempu museum theft: 3 held but Padma medals still missing
Culprit identified by cop, was involved in 13 burglaries
SHIVAMOGGA: The police have managed to solve the theft at Rashtrakavi Kuvempu’s ancestral house and arrest three persons, but they are yet to recover the Padmashri awards.
The police nabbed the culprits on Thursday late night and the culprits have been identified as Anjanappa, attender at Kuvempu Pratisthana museum, Revanasiddappa of Turuchaghatta and Prakash of Mandarahalli of Davanagere district.
Speaking at a press conference, Inspector General of Police of Eastern Range Mr. Nanjundaswamy said on Friday that the culprit Revanasiddappa was involved in 13 cases of thefts and burglaries in Shivamogga, Davanagere and Chitradurga districts. He said that the most cases registered against Revanasiddappa were of theft.
As soon as the incident of burglary came into to light along with the CCTV footage, tracing the culprit became easy. A constable, Manjunath based in Davanagere had immediately identified the person in the CCTV image and the police succeeded in catching him. Some badges and medals worn by poet laureate Kuvempu have been recovered. A search is on for the Padma medals and they will be recovered soon, the IGP said.
“Anjanappa helped the main culprit Revanasiddappa in stealing the coveted Padma medals and other valuables. Then Prakash was used by them for selling the loot.”
