Kottayam: While the Mullaperiyar dam water level reached 138.1 feet on Friday morning, Tamil Nadu issued the second alert to the Kerala government to  take precautions, including evacuation of  the families residing  downstream of Periyar river.

At least 129 families of  Vallakadavu will be evacuated if water is released or rainfall increases, said sources at the Idukki district administration.

Idukki ADM K.P.R. Prasad told DC that the district administration had  made all arrangements to deal with any emergency situation. However, there was no need to panic, he added.
