THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan on Friday flayed the recovery notices issued to the endosulfan victims by banks.

In a statement here, Mr Achuthanandan said that the bank notices amounted to contempt of court. He held the UDF government’s indifferent attitude towa-rds the endosulfan victims responsible for the recovery notices issued by the bank.

He said the High Court had earlier frozen the recovery proceedings in the wake of government announcing Rs 10 crore debt relief scheme for the endosulfan victims.

However, with the government failing to implement the debt relief scheme, the banks have now issued recovery notices.

The Opposition leader accused UDF government of treating the endosulfan victims with an enemy mindset and this was highly condemnable.

“Only the Oommen Chandy government can think of treating the hapless endosulfan victims who are facing untold miseries, in such an insensitive manner. The government’s attitude is totally unacceptable,” he said.

Mr Achuthanandan urged the government to implement its announcement on debt relief for endosulfan victims to save them from the recovery proceedings at the earliest.
