Hyderabad: Despite the Telangana Road Transport authorities having issued driving licences to as many as 2.12 lakh women till date, getting a woman driver is not an easy task.
This is because the 2.12 lakh women who have obtained licences drive their personal vehicles and are not professional drivers.
Though women have been breaking barriers in all male-dominated professions, there are not many when it comes to driving.
For example, the Cyberabad police had asked the Transport department for more women drivers to run SHE cabs from the airport but transport officials replied that women drivers were not readily available.
Even the FICCI Ladies Organisation, which is training more than 100 women to drive, said that it was not easy to get women in the driving profession.
The first batch of 40 women drivers from FICCI, who have been undergoing training for the past few months, will be ready to drive cabs after six months as the transport rule stipulates at least one year experience in regular driving to obtain a commercial licence
