Hyderabad: Over 100 budding basketballers from all over the state took part in the selection trials of ACG-NBA Jump, a talent search program held at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday.
Under the watchful eyes of Carlos Barroca, NBA Sporting Director for basketball operations in India, the hoopsters — aged between 18 and 22 — were put through three rigorous sessions of training which oscillated between playing matches and teaching basics like jumping and shooting.
ACG-NBA Jump is an initiative of the NBA and ACG Worldwide Group, to discover and develop the skills of basketball players from India. A total of 32 players will be selected to attend a national camp. The best player from the camp will attend the NBA D-League tryouts in USA.
Impressed by the skills shown by the players, Barroca said that there is no dearth of talent here. “I’ve been travelling in India for a few months and what I saw did not disappoint me at all.” The 32 names will be released after the final round of trials, in Chennai in January.
