Tanvi Ganesh Lonkar, who played the younger version of Freida Pinto in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, which went on to bag several honours and awards at the Oscars and Golden Globes, is foraying into Tamil with a movie titled Vidayutham. Ram Saran, who acted as a child artiste in the Parthiban-Nandita Das starrer Azhagi will play the male lead. A ghost thriller laced with youthful romance, the film is directed by Nagamaneci, a known name in the ad-film circuit. A battle between a ghost and a snake is said to be the highlight of the movie.

“We wanted a fresh face and through a common friend from Mumbai, we approached Tanvi. She has a meaty role to play and is very talented.  She learnt Tamil in just a few days! On the sets, she could pick things up really fast,” the director claims.

In an earlier interview to DC, Tanvi had said that she does not have a godfather to promote her in Bollywood. “I do get film offers from B’town, but most of them are insignificant. So, like Asin and Genelia who started here in the south, made it big and later migrated to Bollywood, let me also try my luck in Tamil cinema.” However, Lastbenchers, her first film in a lead role in Hindi released last year, and sank without a trace.
