Actress Samantha’s NGO for free cardiac surgeries in Vijayawada

11 members, including doctors and nurses from UK would carry out surgeries

Vijayawada: Actress Samantha’s Pratyusha Support in collaboration with city’s Andhra Hospitals and UK’s Healing Little Hearts is going to perform pediatric cardiac surgeries for 15 children affected with cardiac issues.

Starting from Monday, a team of 11 members, including doctors and nurses from UK would carry out surgeries in the hospital till December 5.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, managing director of the hospital Dr P.V. Ramana Murthy said that Samantha’s NGO and the hospital are equally sponsoring the operations of the children and accepted application from 70 children who need a surgery.

“In the first phase, the doctors from UK would treat about 15 children in the coming week,” he said. He said, on December 5, actress Samantha would visit the children who would have undergone surgeries and spend a whole day with them. He said so far 21 children were benefited through the initiative.

Founder of Healing Little Hearts Mr Sanjeev Nichani, of Indian origin, said that they have been performing surgeries for free to the affected children and in India so far over 500 surgeries have been done.

Other team members from UK include Dr D. Ramana, Dr Vikram Kudumula of AP, Dr Philip Arnold, nurses Ms Nena, Ms Maria Teresa and Ms Lesly. The team is from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Glenfield Hospital and Leicester Royal Infirmary, UK.
