Mumbai: Woman asks son to rape 16-year-old niece, held
The aunt of the girl was taking care of her for the past seven years
Mumbai: The Navpada police has arrested a woman and her son in the rape case of a 16-year-old relative. The police said the woman had goaded her 31-year-old son into raping her niece because he wanted to marry her, but the girl and her family were not ready for the marriage.
According to police officials, the girl is studying in a junior college and was staying with her aunt for the past seven years. He parents are from Nagpur and therefore they had sent the girl to her aunt’s place in Thane so that she would get good opportunities in Mumbai.
Shakira Bano (48), the aunt of the girl was taking care of her for the past seven years. She and her two sons reside near the Navpada area. “Her elder son Rashid Ali (31) wanted to marry the 16-year-old girl. He also approached her many times with the proposal but she refused him. Rashid then told his mother about his feelings, who approached her brother’s family with the marriage proposal for her son. The girl’s parents refused and brought their daughter back home to Nagpur,” said a police official.
The police said that Shakira in her statement had admitted that she had planned her niece’s rape.
“She provoked her son into committing the rape and accordingly called the girl to Thane on the pretext of giving her documents back. The girl came to Thane unaware of their intention. When she entered Shakira’s home, she tied up the girl’s hands and pushed her into the bedroom and locked the door from outside. Her son then raped the girl. He threatened her against telling anybody about the crime and told her to go home and seek approval for the marriage.”
The girl straightaway came to the police station and narrated the incident. “We called her parents, did a health check up from a nearby hospital and handed her over to her family. On the same day, we arrested her aunt and her son.”
The girl did not want to marry Rashid and slapped him in front of her parents a week ago after he had reportedly tried to touch her inappropriately, said sources. The girl resisted marriage because she wanted to study and get a job to help her family, said the police.
