CPM councillor takes oath, arrested

Muraleedharan was at large for the murder of a IUML local leader

Kannur: Former Taliparambu municipality vice-chairman and CPM councillor K. Muraleedharan,  the first accused in the murder case of IUML local leader K.V.M.  Kunji,  was arrested on Monday.      

He surrendered before Taliparambu inspector Vinod Kumar  after taking oath as councillor at the municipal corporation office.

Another accused CPM councillor, T. Prakashan, who was remanded in custody,  also assumed charge on Monday with special court permission.  Kunji, 56, was attacked on the polling day on November 2 at Taliparambu allegedly by over  300 CPM workers.

A critically injured Kunji succumbed to his  injuries at a private hospital in Mangalore after a few days. Muraleedharan represents Maandhamkundu ward and Prakashan Plathottam ward.
