March to develop Kempegowda’s tomb
Thousands of citizens, members of Rajya Vokkaliga Sangha took part in the padayatra
Bengaluru: The state government should set up Kempegowda Development Authority to study the legacy of founder of Bengaluru Hiriya Kempegowda and his successors, said Adichunchanagiri math seer Sree Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji on Monday.
Participating in the padayatra organised under the aegis of Rajya Vokkaliga Sangha from Magadi Town to Kempapura he demanded the government to declare the Kempegowda ‘samadhi’ as a national memorial and take up improvement works.
“We have statues of great leaders on the Vidhana Soudha premises. Ironically, the statue of Bengaluru founder Kempegowda is missing, which I feel very essential. It is high time his statue is installed. We also want government to declare holiday for Kempegowda Jayanti.,” the seer said. The country was divided on a debate of tolerance and intolerance, and if the state government failed to take up the issue, then it will be pushing a dominant community towards intolerance, said the Swamiji. Thousands of citizens, members of Rajya Vokkaliga Sangha and resident welfare associations took part in the padayatra. The aim of the padayatra was to attract the attention of the state government to develop city founder Kempegowda's tomb as a major tourist attraction. The padayatra started from Kempegowda’s family deity Kote Maramma and culminated at Kempegowda’s tomb in Kempapura.
