Demand for set top boxes increases
In GHMC limits alone there is a need for installation of 15 to 20 lakh STBs
Hyderabad: With the Dec. 31 deadline for mandatory installation of set top boxes fast approaching for cable TV service in GHMC limits, other municipal corporations and municipalities in Telangana, lakhs of cable TV subscribers and local cable TV operators are a harried lot buying STBs and installing them.
In GHMC limits alone there is a need for installation of 15 to 20 lakh STBs. Only 12 lakh subscribers have installed STBs so far in GHMC limits.
The Centre has directed all Multi System Operators to stop analogue signals from Jan. 1, 2016 as part of its “cable TV digitisation programme” and subscribers without STBs cannot access cable TV services. With huge demand, the MSOs have hiked STB prices which are being offered for a price ranging from Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,500.
