Hero eyes top position in scooter market
The company is investing Rs 450 crore at the Hero Centre of Global Innovation
Pune: Hero Motocorp, India's largest maker of motorcycles and scooters, which entered the growing scooter market in the country in 2006 with Hero 100cc Pleasure scooter, is planning to strengthen its scooter product portfolio with higher engine displacement (cc) to increase its market share.
“We have a strategic plan to be the market leader in the growing scooter segment just as we are the undisputed top brand in motorcycles,” Ashok Bhasin, head – sales and marketing at Hero Motocorp told FC.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India is the dominant player in the scooter segment with 50 per cent market share.
He said the company has briskly sold over 50,000 units within a month of its newly launched Hero Duet and Hero Maestro Edge scooters in the Indian market.
“In fact, our market share rose from 14 per cent to 17 per cent within a month after we introduced two variants of each of Duet and Maestro Edge scooters,” Bhasin said.
These 110cc engine scooters are priced between Rs 49,200 and Rs 51,000 at Pune showrooms, which were introduced in Pune on Wednesday.
