Namakkal: Key accused Yuvaraj in the murder of Dalit youth Gokulraj in Namakkal has been detained under the Goondas Act. Namakkal district collector V. Dakshinamurthy issued orders, detaining Yuvaraj who heads a caste outfit, Dheeran Chinnamalai Gounder Peravai, under the Goondas Act.

The murder of engineering graduate Gokulraj had triggered political controversy and communal tension as he was killed for allegedly falling in love with an upper caste Gounder girl.

As Dalit outfits and the family of Gokulraj demanded a CBI probe into the murder, key accused Yuvaraj went absconding. Meanwhile, the case took another turn as the deputy superintendent of police of Tiruchengode, R.Vishnupriya, who investigated the Gokulraj murder case, suddenly committed suicide, allegedly due to pressure and harassment by higher officials.

Amid statewide uproar over the suicide of the police officer, the state government ordered a CB-CID probe into the Gokulraj murder case. Meanwhile, Yuvaraj, who was sending Whatsapp messages and causing a stir, finally surrendered before the CB-CID police in October. After 58 days in Vellore prison, he has been detained under the Goondas Act now.
