No control on spy agencies: Kerala High Court

The court also suo mottu added Union Government as a party in the case

Kochi: Kerala High Court on Wednesday held that there is no legislation to control or regulate private detective agencies. The court made the observation while considering a petition filed by former Kochi ACP Sunil Jacob against police force.

“There may be certain areas where their private activities may be in conflict with the public activities. In such cases police authorities can restrain such private person from encroaching upon public activities" Justice A Muhammed Mustaque observed while permitting state police to restrain the activities of retired cop Sunil Jacob if they are encroaching upon the police power.

The court also suo mottu added Union Government as a party in the case. The court also asked Director General of Prosecution to inform whether they have any objection in releasing the contents of sealed cover produced before the court.
