School athletics meet to kick off on December 5

The city will play host to the 59th edition of the four-day meet, starting on December 5

Kozhikode: After 22 years, Kozhikode is once again set to be the host for the State School Athletics meet on its new synthetic track  at Kozhikode Medical College Campus stadium- Olympian Rahman stadium. The city will play host to the 59th edition of the four-day meet, starting on December 5,  meeting the challenge arose after it shifted venue from Malappuram in the last minute. The district with its efficient organizing capacity has touched the finishing lines of preparations for the meet now.

A team divided in around 17 sub committees such as law and order, programme, food, ground and equipment, reception and accommodation has been working to welcome 2,650 athletes and 350 officials from around the State. State School Athletics meet torch relay that will begin on Thursday from Thiruvananthapuram will have a grant reception at Ramanatukara, followed by the rally to the main venue with presence of sports stars of the State.

Talking during the final meeting of the athletics meet organsied on Wednesday at BEM Girl’s Higher Secondary School, General Convener and Deputy Director of Education Giresh Cholayil said, “The stadium which has proved its efficiency hosting the National Games is all set to welcome the athletes of the state for the meet”. In addition to this a grand shamiana has been put up over the gallery in stadium which has a seating capacity for more than 10,000 people in a stretch to watch the meet.

The sub committees have completed the final works for the smooth conduct of the meet. Once again noted chef Pazhayidom Mohanan Namboothiri will play the role of the chief chef for the particiapnts.
