Mumbai: John Ward, the Australian umpire, who is being treated for his head-injury in Madurai after being hit on the head while officiating in the Tamil Nadu-Punjab Ranji Trophy game on Tuesday, will leave for Melbourne after being discharged from the hospital in the next 48 hours.
The 53-year-old has been officiating in India as part of the umpires exchange programme mutually agreed between BCCI and Cricket Australia (CA). “He had some micro vessel bleeding and is under medication and advised rest. No surgery is required and we plan to discharge him on Thursday,” Dr. S. Sundarrajan said on Tuesday.
