Hyderabad: The TRS has intensified its headhunting attempts, trying to poach as many leaders, who can strengthen its base in the city, even as the election authorities prepare to conduct the GHMC polls.

The TRS on Thursday met success in the form of TD senior MLA from Secunderabad Cantonment G. Sayanna and Congress MLC from city M.S. Prabhakar.

The duo met TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao at his camp office and announced that they would be joining the party.

Like those leaders from these parties who joined TRS earlier, they too said they were attracted by the Chief Minister's vision, policies and programmes, and his resolve to make ‘Bangaru Telangana’, and offered themselves to be a part of the development.

Interestingly, both announced they were resigning from their erstwhile party posts, but skipped mention of leaving the posts that they were holding, though these posts had come to them solely due to party affiliation.

Mr Sayanna is the sixth MLA from the TD (the party had 15 Assembly seats in the 2014 elections) to have switched sides.

TD president N. Chandrababu Naidu had even named Mr Sayanna one of the members of the TTD Board a few months ago to prevent him from joining the TRS.

Mr Sayanna said he will resign from the TTD Board membership. With Mr Prabhakar joining the TRS, the Congress has lost its last legislator (both Assembly and Council) from the GHMC limits, an area that sends 24 of the 120 members to the House.
